On April 28-May 1 , at the invitation of the Imperial War Museum (IWM) and with the assistance of the Embassy, a delegation of the Belarusian State Museum of the history of the Great Patriotic War visited the UK. The delegation included Deputy Director of the Museum on general issues Yu.Tsykal, Deputy Director on scientific work A. Halinskaya and Chief curator of the funds S.Potupchik.
The visit was reciprocal: the delegation of the Imperial War Museum headed by Director D. Lees visited the Republic of Belarus in May 2017.
The purpose of the visit of the Belarusian delegation was the exchange of experience and development of cooperation between the two museums as well as to inform the British side about the preparations for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders.
The Belarusian delegation got acquainted with the historical exhibits connected with WWI and WWII. Particular attention was paid to the issues of interactivity in the organization of exhibitions and presentation of the history of the war through the fates and tragedies of ordinary people.
The delegation also visited the branches of IWM – Churchill War Rooms and the storage facilities in Duxford, where, in particular, about 250 units of large military equipment are exhibited.
As a result of the visit, the parties noted a great interest in continuing creative contacts and establishing permanent and systematic cooperation, primarily in the preparation of new thematic exhibitions on the contribution of their countries to the victory over fascism
